15 August, 2017: CMR IMS chose to invite a few schools for lesser privileged children for some fun and games to mark the 71st Independence Day of India. This was a student- driven initiative. The children were brought to the campus by the college sponsored buses and were given snacks and lunch. More than a hundred students from schools including MEG, APD and Government Schools participated in various events such as painting, drawing, singing, dancing and a fashion show.
The chosen theme for the day was ‘FREEDOM’. Staff and students were invigorated with the laughter and cheer on campus which continued throughout the event. The students enjoyed having the opportunity and many ended up performing dances, mimicry and songs. It appeared to be a fun day out for the young guests.
In another segment of the celebrations, the National Flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest Col. Shrikumar, SM & Bar, Veteran, followed by the march past by the college NCC, NSS and YRCS wings. The Chief Guest inspired all present with his motivating speech on the importance of breaking all kinds of shackles imposed mentally and physically in the name of religion, caste and gender. He urged the students to become ideal citizens of the country. This charged the whole campus with patriotic fervor.
Cultural performances by students to mark the unity in diversity of our country took place through a dance that represented a few of the popular traditions of the different states. Students used patriotic songs and a mime to capture the mood of our nation. The day ended with the college choir ‘Resonance’ singing ‘Vande Matharam’ in Hindi and Tamil. CMR IMS Principal, Professor Suja Bennet, Captain Dr. Anandappa, Vice Principal, Dr. Rishikesh, Director of the CMR Centre for Business Studies, Professor Pranesh, Vice Principal of the CMR Law School and Professor Ravi Chander, Director of CMR Life Skills Institute, all attended this event.
