29 August, 2017: “Champions aren’t made in a gym, champions are made from something they have deep inside them”, with this motto in mind the CMR Group of Institutions organized a 7 day sports event – CMR GIG 2017 for students and faculty from 23rd to 29th August, 2017. Various games such as Cricket, Basketball, Throw ball, Football, volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Chess were organized for students and staff.
The sports events kicked off with the most the common sport played in India, ‘Cricket’ which was held between 5 different CMR Institutes. Next up was the most emerging sport in India, ‘Football”.
Shuttle badminton for boys, girls, and faculty were conducted. Various other games such as Chess, Throw ball, Volleyball and Table tennis were conducted.
The most awaited and the most excited games of all, ‘Basketball’ was conducted on 29th August, 2017 where different CMR Institutes competed against each other.
Valedictory programme was held on 29th August, 2017 at the CMR Institute of Management Studies campus. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Karan Joshua, International Basketball Player. Guest of Honor was Shri. K.C. Jagannath Reddy, Secretary, CMR Jnanadhara Trust.
The final match between CMR University, School of Legal Studies and CMR Institute of Management Studies was a spectacular one. CMR University, School of Legal Studies emerged victorious and secured the winners position in Basketball.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Karan Joshua addressed the gathering. Mr. Karan Joshua stressed how important sports is in a student’s life and thus encouraged students to take part in extracurricular activities. He ended his speech with Michael Jordan’s quote ‘Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.’
Price distribution by the Chief Guest was held where medals and the trophies were distributed to the winners and the runners of the tournament.
The overall Championship Trophy was shared by CMR Institute of Technology and CMR Institute of Management Studies.
It has been rightly said that nothing comes before our nation, and the real glory of every citizen is their nation. Thus the meet was declared close by singing our national anthem.
CMR GIG 2017 – The 7 Day Tournament was indeed filled with excitement and nostalgic memories.
